Project Title: Intercropping of Oil Palm Plantation with Pineapple – Edo State, Nigeria (2024)
Client: Medium-Scale Farm Owner
Location: Uromi, Edo State, Nigeria
Year: 2024
Service Rendered: Intercropping Design, Pineapple Supply & Field Implementation
Project Description:
In 2024, Dessy Agro implemented an intercropping system combining young oil palm seedlings with pineapple crops on a farm in Uromi, Edo State. The goal was to maximize land use, improve soil health, and generate early income during the palm’s juvenile phase.
We conducted proper land preparation, designed spacing layouts, and supplied over 20,000 pineapple suckers. Using a double-row alley cropping method, we ensured both crops received adequate sunlight, nutrients, and water without competition.
Outcome:
Within months, the farm began harvesting pineapples while palm seedlings continued growing healthily. This system provided additional income, reduced weed pressure, and demonstrated how smart intercropping increases early farm profitability.
